Winter in Nova Scotia
Now that we’ve securely moored Aegir at Alderney Marina in Dartmouth, Halifax, and finished up a few outdoor tasks in glorious autumn weather, we’re spending two months in Europe. One of our favorite things is getting together with friends and family in different places. Art, culture, and local cuisine are just as much a part of the plan as our first attempts at welding—you never know... Welding for beginners... In early January, we return to the boat with all our gear and s

From Baffin Island, along the Labrador coast, to Nova Scotia.
16.10.2025 Tanner Bay Baffin Island - Polar Bar hanging out at the beach We still have nearly 2000 nautical miles to go. After leaving Clyde River, we initially sail south with a strong headwind. Darkness falls again as the sun sets. At the moment, though, daybreak is at 2:00 a.m. again. This is good news for us, as there are icebergs along the coast. We approach the next anchorage. It is called Arctic Harbour. We spot some humpback whales. But we cannot see them up close. W

West Greenland and Baffin Island
26.08.2025 Sams Fjord - Beluga Mountains After Ilulissat, we sail further north through the Vaigat, setting our sights on Saqqaq as our first stop. In foggy conditions and dense ice fields, we must navigate carefully. We sail slowly, taking turns at the helm every half hour. Fortunately, the density of growlers decreases before increasing again off Saqqaq. A belt of ice stretches along the coast, making it seem as though there is no way through. Christine goes to the bow to f

Passage to Northwest Greenland
From Halifax, we'll continue along the east coast and stop at two anchorages (Owls Head and Fisherman's Harbor). These are peaceful places to arrive after strenuous legs with lots of wind, waves, and lobster buoys. We'll encounter the Arctic Turns again for the first time. Fisherman's Harbor is a good place to quickly wash and dry your clothes in the sun and wind. Without time pressure, we complete a few tasks before the next visit. From Maine to Nova Scotia
Boothbay Maine Now that we've made our short trip to Boston by car, the four of us are back on board for the next fourteen days. Sundeck - Aegir... Following a good warm-up for our new crew on board, we first sail along the coast to Boothbay - in a lobster-pot slalom, of course - and go to a mooring buoy. Here we come across a pretty little village decorated for Memorial Day. Stonington is our next stop. A very attractive village too, even if there is still not much going on.

Boat works in Portland
Huge crane at PYS Coming off a great sailing start in 2025, we are spending another month in Portland to complete our current boat projects (antifouling, anode replacement, new waterstay, de-rust/paint water tank, power supply, welding, the annual de-rust/paint and more). Shellfish farming behind the prop... Physically it is a strenuous time and mentally we are challenged, as the weather window for painting is a long time coming and our time ashore is somewhat extended. In th
